To spread trans-boundary humanities knowledge beyond the specialized area of the university and researchers, public lectures for the general audience are being designed and run. They have been held from late 2009 and the research team develops such lecture programs.
Lectures for the Public. 2012: Humanities Beyond Boundaries 1: Talks about in-between
Crossing boundaries from one familiar sphere to another, or trans-boundary activity, is a phenomenon that truly demonstrates the multifariousness of modern day life. In humanities, a similar transition is taking place from the bookish ways of the ivory tower to interaction and communication that involves the world. Under the broader EIH 2012 theme of Trans-Humanities, our aim is to focus on “in-between” and look further into the ways of thought found in the study of humanities in an era marked by the blurring of boundaries. “In-between” refers to the boundary spaces between text and image, art and technology, tradition and the modern, and reality and fiction among others. It is a word that encapsulates the core of scholarly research in the time of Trans-Humanities.
