2014 Humanities Lecture for Teens
In his Critique of Judgment, Immanuel Kant sheds new light on the power of imagination, suggesting that imagination is a faculty responsible for forming, out of specific and individual facts, common concepts with which all can communicate. 2014 Humanities Lecture for Teens by Ewha Institute for the Humanities (EIH) will cover characters and events which reveal this power of imagination in literature, fine art, philosophy, history, and politics. Imagination overthrows tradition, ethics, and common sense. Imagination creates reality: all new events, refreshing spaces, and astonishing things. Imagination travels beyond the boundaries, which makes it glamorous as well as dangerous. In this course, we will explore different minds and events with new imagination in various fields through the lens of humanities, and strive for the ways to accommodate affirmatively and positively the impacts those people and events have brought about. Our ultimate goal is to explore the ‘humanities of imagination’ within which common vision of our private and public life can be devised.
